RuPaul’s Drag Race star Chi Chi DeVayne dead at 34

DeVayne, who revealed in 2018 that she had been diagnosed with an auto-immune disease called scleroderma, was recently hospitalised with high blood pressure and suspected kidney failure.

Last week she posted a video from hospital and asked fans, “Keep me in your prayers. I’ll be back soon”.

DeVayne first appeared on RuPaul’s Drag Race in season eight in 2016 and became a fan favourite thanks to her legendary lip-syncs and dance moves and down to earth southern charm.

She later returned for the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

RuPaul paid tribute to DeVayne in a statement to Entertainment Weekly.

“I am heartbroken to learn of the passing of Chi Chi DeVayne,” RuPaul said. “I am so grateful that we got to experience her kind and beautiful soul. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. May her generous and loving spirit shine down on us all.”
